2nd Week of Advent

I have been reflecting on the past week and wondering how it could have been better. Then again that candle has already burned. It was scary starting out last week but learning a lesson lightened it up. School could have been better and time could have been used more wisely but this next week will be different. Tonight when I go up to the church, I will pray that I use my time to what is God's will for me. As for this week Blogging wise, I have some posts telling of Christmas past.

New Mass Translation

I had that of my first experience with "the New Mass Translation" on Thanksgiving Day. I try to listen for the meaning of what I hear now, where before it seemed to not have as much meaning for me. I love how the music has changed too. There is much more of a period of silence now also. And last of all I can redirect myself to the sacrifice of the holy mass.

1st Week of Advent

I find it so amazing when my prayers are answered at the least expected moments like yesterday at Mass. Fr Flynn made the point that we should change this advent season for the better. As he repeated my prayer aloud, I felt inside a warmth coming over me. I had been struggling with something for two years now and felt that I must deal with it in a sensable way.

This Advent season I plan on changing for the better. After some asking around, shedding tears, inspirational words form St. Teresa and praying for a considerable amount of time . I have came to the point of knowing what I will be working on. I would tell you, but then it would spoil the end results, which I truly don't know but strive to achieve. For those of you who gave me advice, Thank You.

Approaching the Holiday Season

Even though "Negative Mylea" is part of the past I will quote her just this once from one encounter which happened back in July...

A Friend asked Negative Mylea if she was ever happy. She replied by saying

Negative Mylea: I have lost the meaning of Happiness

Friend: You don't even enjoy the holidays like Christmas and opening up presents?

Negative Mylea:  The holidays have always been stressful for me and opening up presents makes me feel selfish because I would not have enough gifts compared to my sisters.

The Friend was silent

Now that "Negative Mylea" is part of the past. "Positive Mylea" will take over her response to the holidays?

The Holidays have been stressful in the past. I look forward to this year though since I see it in a newer light full of meaning.

I have always loved sitting around the dinner table praying with my family and friends.

As for food Eating Mama's Tacos and Banana Pudding along with Sausage Balls if there is any left before Uncle Kelly and Uncle Curt take them all. It just makes my mouth water thinking about it.

The presents are nice but don't mean nearly as much to me now as they did in the past.
I will get a few this year but have deiced to do something different.
I would tell you but it would spoil a future blog post.

Last but not least The true meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas will take much more of a dominate place this holiday Season for me.

Sheperd's Storehouse

We try to get involved in different forms of community service, one is that of feeding the poor. We have been volunteering at the Shepherds Storehouse since 2004. Once a moth on a Monday morning from 8:30am -12:00pm.

What We Do

We stock shelves with food and empty out boxes of food that came from the food bank. Take donations and bring the food on carts to the family's to load into their cars.

Donations

We received many donations today half of them came from St.Thomas Aquinas the other half from Midway Baptist combined with several individual donations averaging three bags each.

Overall...

It was a busy day. I guess we served 15 families. I'm not quite sure to be exact.

Food For The Soul From St Teresa

"It is here, my daughters, that love is to be found - not hidden away in corners but in the midst of occasions of sin. And believe me, although we may more often fail and commit small lapses, our gain will be incomparably the greater." - St Teresa of Avila

I needed that today, Thanks St Teresa!

Angels and Bells

Last night I went to "Youth Night." We got off subject and started talking about Angels. It made me think of at mass during the consecration, you hear the bells ring. As a child of about 5 years old, I remember my mother telling me that whenever you hear the bells ring it means the angels are present here at our Lord's sacrifice.

One Sunday, we brought a few of our friends, who don't go to mass often. My mother leaned over and told one of the little girls the same thing. She heard and said aloud "Where are They?" as she looked up at the banisters of the church. Everyone must have heard because people started to stare.

To this day there is times, when I hear those bells ring. I think back to that moment when my mother told me for the first time. Even though I was just a child I had that of little faith, but knew that of the angels honoring our Lord, something I try to do all the time.

I feel so Happy I could Dance and Skip at the Grocery Store

OK, It seems obvious that I am in a really good mood lately. This past Saturday I was up at the church with my Dad. All of a sudden I started to skip as we made our way to the church office under the moonlight. Daddy noticed and called mommy and told her what I was doing. He was so happy you could have thought I took my first step.

Last night after supper mommy mentioned "what if you started dancing in the Grocery store." I laughed and said "maybe so" Today I found this video and thought I would share it. Wouldn't it be funny if I really did dance and skip at the Grocery Store. Mommy said she would just ignore me. So live life and have a good time...even if it is out in public! And also to say the least I am not High today!

Homeschooling Blog Post 6# Learning New Study Habits

I mentioned last week that I was starting new things in school. One of the things I started yesterday was this: learning Study Habits. It says...

In 27 lessons, which you can go through in one month (with one day per week for rest), you will learn how to improve in every phase of your school work: note-taking, reviewing for tests, taking exams, writing papers, budgeting study time, and much more.

Why not! They mention that of Professor X's tequinqe. I already knew about it, but will give it a try today.

Dressing Modestly Blog Post 3: Tweleve Personal Rules for Me to Follow

I try to look over the body and try to imagine what would be modest

1. I try to make sure my hair is clean and brushed it usually depends on my mood for how I fix it.

2. I wear no makeup the only thing that might come close to it is “Lip Balm” that looks like “Lip Gloss”

3. The shoulders must be covered.

4. The lowest the neckline can be two widths of the finger.

5. I prefer my sleeves to be to the pit of the elbow but that is hard to do so in between the shoulder and elbow would do if I were desperate for a shirt.

6. The shirt must not be too thin in that case; I should not see my straps to my undergarments.

7. The shirt must not be to tight fitting or not too baggy. In addition, it must cover my bottom. When I bend over it must not show any excessive skin.

8. My skirt must ride on my natural waistline, which is usually where the belly button is.

9. The skirt should not be a see through one and unless necessary a slip can be added.

10. The shortest my skirt can be is calf-length or when I sit down it must cover my knees.

11. The skirt can have no slit on the side or back.

12. My shoes must have no heels.

This is just a list of rules on my personal standards for me to follow.

Try an Experiment: make a list of rules for you to follow they can be of your personal standards. Who knows your list might give me a few ides to add to mine.

Dressing Modestly Blog Post 2: Shopping for Clothing/Sewing My Clothing

Shopping For Clothing

This might be shocking, but I HATE shopping for Clothes. Yep, it is true

Five Reasons why I HATE Shopping

  1. It is very time consuming.
  2. You have to go to several stores.
  3. When I try them on, I cringe and think who wore this last (even with store bought clothing).
  4. They are always pricey except for sales, which usually has a catch.
  5. Most of the time they do not even carry what are up to my standards.

Now there are times… (Gulp) when I have to… like Shirts…. Nevertheless, I Live.

Sewing My Clothing

I have been waiting to do a blog post on sewing. Why, because I LOVE to sew!

For about a 1 1/2 I have been sewing. I have made various pieces of clothing.

My first article of clothing was a pair of shorts I have only wore them a few times.

My next one was a shirt.

Followed by six skirts, three with zippers, and three with elastic.

I have also made my Confirmation dress, which is the nicest piece of clothing I own.

I am in the process of making another shirt.

I try to sew as much of my clothing as I can.

In the Future, I will be making
My own PATTERNS… soon enough.

That way I can design clothing to my liking and standards.

My next blog post will be titled “Twelve Rules on how I Dress Modestly”

Dressing Modestly: Blog Post 1 How I came to Dress this Way

I would have gotten this posted sooner today, but we had the air conditioner people come over. I think they did a good job they had to put a intake vent in near my bedroom door so I was trapped for a little bit. The two young men who did it were in their early twenties and very polite when they were done one of them even offered to do my chores ha ha what I mean is he offered to vacuum up the mess for me, but mommy said that I supposed to do it. Over all they did a good job and now whenever I type, my hands will not get cold. So onto the post for today.

Those of you who know me well know I have strict and high standards Modesty wise (I actually have high standards in pretty much everything). I will be doing a series of Blog Posts on Dressing Modestly.

How I came to Dress this way

I dressed in pants and shorts from birth to ten years, but once I was exposed to other people who dressed modestly and I started to do research about modest dress according to church teachings. I started to think about it. I looked at the way Our Lady dressed. I strived to dress as her. I went into a length of two years to try to change my dress I slowly changed from pants and shorts to skirts and dresses.

It was not until one day I went up the street with my mother for a few last minute things at the grocery store. I was wearing a very tight fitting top with no under garment underneath my shirt and short shorts. One of the employees a man in his twenties I suppose gave me a dirty look and walked off. It scared me, made me think twice about my dress and made me want to dress modestly even the more.

Increasing my Standards

By the age of twelve, I was wearing skirts and dresses all the time I began to raise my standards longer skirts and dresses, no slits. For shirts, not as tight and if I could help it longer sleeves. Actually, I increase my standards every year.

Making a Promise to our Lady
I made a promise to our Lady that I would not ever wear a pair of pants again. To me, they feel weird and they seem to not give me room to move. I do not own a single pair of pants. I do own a pair of shorts, but do not wear them.

What I Believe

I have always been taught that men are Visual and that if we show too much skin they will sin. Something women do not want to be held accountable. In addition, we need to focus on a woman’s heart and soul rather less her body.

My next blog Post will be on “Shopping for Clothing and Sewing Clothing”

Are we ready for the coming of the Lord?

OK, this is too good to be true. Either God is sending me a message here or Fr.Flynn has the book “A Year with the Church Fathers.” Is he playing with me, but then he was serious during yesterday’s homily, a very hard-hitting homily to be exact. That actually made me think. He was talking about his stay in the army and how he trained to do things when he went to war. It just happened to be he intertwined it with the gospel about the ten bridesmaids that came to meet the groom. Five did not bring enough oil to keep their lamps burning. The other five brought extra oil for themselves. Fr.Flynn asked us the question “Are we ready for the coming of the Lord? I am still questioning myself long and hard about that. Today I opened up my book of meditations titled “A Year with the Church Fathers” this is what it said…

Keep on Your Toes

I’ve said all these things, not to exempt the devil from blame, but to free you from slothfulness. For he really wants us to attribute all our sins to him, so that, nourished by those hopes, and going ahead with all kinds of evil, we may increase our own punishment, and find no pardon because we transferred the cause to him-just as Eve found none.

But let us not do this. Let us know ourselves. Let us know our wounds. Then we can apply the medicines. For whoever does not know his disease will not take care of his weakness.

We have sinned much: I know this well. We all deserve the penalties. But we are not without pardon. We shall not fall away from repentance. For we still stand in the arena, and we are in the struggles of repentance.

Are you old and in the last stage of life? Don’t think that even now you have fallen from repentance. Don’t despair of your own salvation. Think of the robber who was freed on the cross. What was briefer than the moment he was crowned? Yet even so, this was enough for his salvation.

Are you young? Don’t be confident in your youth, or think that you have a long life ahead of you. “The day the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). This is why he has made our end invisible: so that we might make diligence and our forethought plain.

-St.John Chrysostom, Homily 2 on the Power of Demons, 5

In God’s Presence Consider…
If the day of the Lord came right now, would I be ready?

Closing Prayer
Lord, you accepted the repentance of David; accept also my repentance for all my transgressions and my errors.

Now back to what I was saying. Yesterday’s homily ties into today’s mediation, which also sums up a few questions that I have been pondering for some time now. Am I ready for the coming of the Lord? I will have to pray on that one for sure. Also, I have been looking on into the future trying to accept that I will not know what my calling will be. Again, This is why he has made our end invisible: so that we might make diligence and our forethought plain.

Today at breakfast, Mommy mentioned that she wanted us to go to mass on Thursday mornings and add an extra hour of adoration in. She said that Fr.Flynn’s homily really made her think too.

So there you have it! Now you know what I will be Praying on today.

Dedicating the Hour to the Lord

I value the saints greatly. Now it does show that I favor St.Teresa of Avila, we get along well. I look up to the other saints like St.John Vianny he had a practice, which I have adapted to my life. It is that of "Dedicating the Hour to the Lord" through the intercession of Mary. I try to do the same, I have gotten into the habit of looking at the clock at the strike of the hour, signaling me to drop everything and pray.

During those few seconds of silence I examine the past hour and ask myself how can I make the next even better. I do fall during the hour at times I pick myself up and know that I have a greater incentive to watch my actions, words and thoughts next time. I ask the Lord to move me by doing his will, then I ask for the strength to not sin and not fall into temptations. From there I pray for the intentions of the holy father and all the prayer intentions in my prayer box.

Why do I do it? because I yearn to have a deeper union with our Lord. I know how it feels to wake up and have so much to do. 24 hours is a long time and can be hard to wrap our minds around. A hour is a much smaller amount of time something I can bite into much better than 24. It humbles me, lets me know that every hour of every day should be centered around God, He's it after all. Even though it just takes a minute to do, He is worth it. To tell the truth I can't wait for the strike of every hour it is my moment to come closer to him.

50th Blog Post!

I can't believe that this is my 50th blog post. It has come so quickly. I have poured my heart and thoughts into this blog telling of events and lessons I have learned.

I have even been able to educate people on St.Teresa of Avila. One of my readers mentioned to me she did not know much about St.Teresa until I told little bits here and there.

I have recieved various comments both good and bad about certain blog posts and my writing. Those comments have taught me lessons and lifted my spirits, without getting a big head.

My Readers have doubled too I have gotten a few requests to follow just this past week. So with your paitence I will try to expand my ways of sending blog posts out to everyone.

My Past, Satan's Future

It has been half a month since my birthday, which is full of great change. My prayer life has strengthened in many ways, but I know that with Joy comes even stronger temptations. I am happy to say that even though this week has caused great temptations, I am getting stronger daily. Tuesday had that of the worse temptations, since months ago. I saw those temptations were coming from Satan, wanting to have the best of me. He has learned that of my weak spots. That Tuesday night I didn't sleep well, such horrific temptations almost brought me to the breaking point. Ruthless thoughts, Bitter comments, and most of all my past. My first response prayer, then a quote I had found earlier that day...

Satan, the epitome of sin itself, accuses you of unworthiness! When the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future! -Saint Teresa of Avila

Also along with Prayer and St.Teresa I have been going through a series of meditations by the Church Fathers on Satan and his ways. I guess God gives you the strength to go through it all!

"All Souls Day" / Remembering Grandma Pyle

Today is all souls day, I am thinking about how we practice praying for the Poor souls in purgatory.

Offer it Up!

It has became the norm in my house that when one of us is in some kind of pain we are told "Offer it Up." It  can get old to hear, but actually a habit to do. Who knows with all the suffering I have done I might have released a soul from purgatory.

Now even though yesterday was "All Saints Day" it is also was the 13 year anniversary of my father's mother's death

Margery Anne Amerine Pyle June 18 19? - November 1 1998

Carrying along the Name

As you can see her name was Margery, my sister Margery was named after her. Daddy says she has some of her characteristics after her namesake.

My Earliest Memory

The earliest memory I have is that of My Grandmother's Funeral.

My Dad's Fondest Memory

I asked Daddy what is his Fondest memory with Grandma. He said it would have to be taking her to the  many Symphonies.

All Saints Day

Today is "All Saints Day"

I could tell you many things about the saints, but I won't considering that I am still learning about them myself.

First of all let me tell you a story

One day a priest asked a bunch of people a question

Who wants to go to Heaven?

almost all the hands in the room went up.

then he asked another question.

Who wants to be a saint?

most of the hands went down.

the priest replied "well then you all don't want to go to heaven" a bunch of puzzled faces looked at him he responded with "if you go to heaven then you are a Saint."

Our life long goal should be to go to heaven and be a saint. mine is.

One Long Litany of Saints

We went to mass today at "ICC" to fulfill our holy day of obligation. Fr.Richard started out his homily by jokingly saying he was going to list all the names of the saints, everyone laughed.

On the way home someone mentioned what if he really did that? He would be there forever. What if everyone left? Would he give out a prize if you sat through all the names of the saints? As we laughed at his little joke,  We started naming off all the names of the saints we could remember. It has been over two and a half hours and we are still naming them of. My mother mentioned that was one long "Litany of Saints."
